Student Support Bursary
The 16-19 Bursary fund is available for learners if they require financial support associated with costs whilst in Post 16 Education.
What can I apply for financial support with?
• Travel Costs
• PPE/Interview Clothes
• Placement Costs (i.e., DBS Checks)
• Lunch
Am I eligible?
There are two types of bursaries available to learners, which you may be eligible to apply for.
Discretionary Bursary
CTS Training’s 16-19 Discretionary Bursary fund helps learners who are in financial hardship to overcome financial barriers, enabling them to continue with and complete their education.
Vulnerable Bursary
Financial Support may be available to the following vulnerable groups of learners aged 16-18. The defined vulnerable groups are students who are:
• In care.
• Care leavers.
• Receiving Income Support, or Universal Credit because they are financially supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them and living with them such as a child or partner.
• Receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments in their own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit in their own right.
Free Meals Fund
Learners can apply for support from the Free Meal fund at a value of £2.41 per day plus a £3.99 uplift from the discretionary fund, at a total of £6.40 per day. This will only be paid for the days attending CTS. This will be paid directly into the learner’s bank accounts. If learners or parents/guardians receive one or more of the following benefits, they will be eligible to apply.
How do I apply?
This will be discussed at your Enrolment Interview and a Bursary application form will be provided to you or complete this online:
If you are already on the programme and you feel that you are facing financial hardship or your circumstances have changed, please ask your Tutor or a Learning Mentor for more information and an application form. If you require help in completing this, please ask for support.
Please note that you will have to provide us with evidence to support your claim, for example, Universal Credit Statement, or a letter from the Local Authority confirming your status.
The processing of your claim for support from the 16-19 Bursary Fund will depend on how quickly your application form with the required evidence is returned to your Tutor or Learning Mentor.
Travel
CTS will also help all eligible students apply for a South Yorkshire travel pass to get discounted fares. To qualify for assistance with the costs of travel between home and CTS Training a learner must live at least 1 mile away from their normal CTS Training site.
16 to 18-year-olds must apply for a Zoom 16-18 Travel Pass.
This concessionary pass entitles learners to concessionary travel at 80p on buses and trams in South Yorkshire and half fare on Northern Trains services in South Yorkshire.
If you are 18 to 22 years old must apply for a Travel Master 18-22 Discount Card.
The Travel Master 18-22 Discount Card is a smartcard
available to all young people, regardless of where you
live, which is valid until the day before your 23rd
birthday to travel in South Yorkshire.
Young people with the 18-22 Discount Card can get 15% off Adult Travel Master Tickets when purchased from a Ticket Vending Machine or through the Travel Master website.
CTS Training will support all learners who are eligible to apply for a 16-18 or 18-22 travel pass. This will then be paid weekly into a learner’s bank account if they are eligible for either the Vulnerable or Discretionary bursary.
